Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

The win also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
