One extended voyage through the Land Down Under was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a rest. The liner departed without her and went back later that day after the personnel discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation located her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are examining the incident, alongside police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that passengers and crew on the ship were told that the remainder of the voyage had been called off due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an revised statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

The vessel first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Travelers on the ship - who typically pay large sums of dollars to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a daily excursion with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the ship left the island after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a participant of a walking group.

"According to scant details we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mum's life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mum fell ill on the mountain ascent," she stated.
